Fibromyalgia and Sleep

You will find many articles, forums, and blogs on Fibromyalgia and Sleep.  Fibromyalgia affects each person differently and some have issues with sleep and others may develop it later.

Sleep is important for everyone.  It is something that we all need, but some rarely get a full night’s sleep.

As a Fibro sufferer sleep is very important for us, but also Fibro can affect us being able to fall asleep.  We have pain so we can be very restless at night.  Our bodies need at least 6-8 hours of good sleep a night.  Now I know that does not always happen, and when you are not able to fall asleep, it can make things even harder.

I am one of those Fibro sufferers that do not sleep.  I used to be able to fall asleep with no problem and stay asleep through the night but that all changed.  I was already exhausted and then add sleep deprivation on top of that, and it is a huge disaster.

There are RX that your doctor may prescribe for you to help you sleep and there are over the counter items you can take as well.  When it comes to sleep, don’t self-diagnose yourself, you need to talk to your doctor so they can put you on the best plan possible for you to get the sleep you need.

I started out taking trazodone, which is very inexpensive, but I did not like the way it made me feel.  I then was moved to Flexeril, which was just fine, but over time I almost became immune to it plus I wanted to wean myself off an RX.

I spoke to my doctor who had me start taking one Melatonin, one L-Tryptophan, and 4 oz. of Tart Cherry Juice.  Sounds like a weird combination, but it totally worked.  I was not sure if I was just beyond exhausted and wanted it to work so I had my husband try it, who has a major problem with sleep, and it worked on him.  I was delighted as I finally found something that did not make me feel groggy, overly medicated and I was getting the sleep I needed.

Well, this kind of ended when I was diagnosed with GERD as I could not tolerate the cherry juice.  I could not believe it; I was finally sleeping and doing well and then I had this setback. So I started just taking the Melatonin and the L-Tryptophan which worked, it did not keep me asleep as long, but at least I was resting.

I then decided to look at herbal teas as I knew I could have those and it would not cause any problems with my GERD.  It was also nice and relaxing to have a nice cup of herbal tea before bed.  So here I was taking all of this at night to sleep.  After awhile I got tired of taking the pills as I am taking so many now and now I was adding more so I googled and found some gummies made by Vitafusion and said I am going to give these a try.
