WomensHealthMag.com hosts a series on Periscope called “Snack Sesh” with fun new ideas for health-conscious snackers. Make sure to tune in live—you’ll be able to ask us questions and make comments in real time— and in the meantime, here’s a recap of the recipes we cooked up this week!

We’re in full-blown holiday mode, which means we’re basically daydreaming about decorated cookies and homemade pie 24/7. And while you’ll rarely catch us saying no to a chocolate truffle or a slice of pecan pie, they’re not exactly brimming with the nutrients we need (can you say sugar crash?!).

So Karena and Katrina, of Tone It Up, joined us this week with a snack that satisfies your sweet tooth and is brimming with holiday spirit…oh,and it fuels your body with healthy ingredients. Yep, that’s possible.

We whipped up their easy-peasy pecan pie protein bites (all you need are six ingredients and a food processor) and then proceeded to eat all of them. Because they’re that delicious.

Pecan Pie Protein Bites

2 Tsbp pecans ground
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (Karena and Katrina use their brand, Perfect Fit)
1/8 tsp maple extract
1/8 cup quinoa crisps
3-4 medjool dates, pitted (err toward 4 if your dates are smaller)
1 Tbsp coconut oil

pecan pie protein bites

1. Place the pecans into the food processor, and blend. Pour into a mixing bowl. Add vanilla protein powder through the maple extract to the bowl. Place dates in food processor, and grind until they reach a paste-like consistency. Add to bowl.

2. Warm up coconut oil in microwave for 30 seconds. Add to mixture, and stir until fully incorporated. Roll into one-inch balls, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

The bites are the perfect mouthful of pecan pie flavor, minus the crazyadded sugar you normally get in a slice. Plus, they come with a little kick of protein! They’re great for a snack before or after a workout—or whenever you have a hankering for a festive treat.
